Several varieties of soap have been recalled across the country, including in Arizona, over a "life-threatening" health risk.

DermaRite Industries, LLC has recalled specific lots of several over-the-counter soaps and topical products due to a dangerous microbial bacteria contamination of Burkholderia cepacia that could cause "serious and life-threatening infections," according to a recall notice shared by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.

The recall includes lots of DermaKleen antiseptic lotion soap, DermaSarra external analgesic, KleenFoam antimicrobial foam soap and PeriGiene antiseptic cleanser distributed nationwide and in Puerto Rico. See the full list of affected products and lot numbers on the FDA's website.

According to the company announcement, the products may be used by immunosuppressed individuals who are at higher risk of serious infections or by people attending to individuals with compromised immune systems.

"In healthy individuals with minor skin lesions the use of the product will more likely result in local infections, whereas in immunocompromised individuals the infection is more likely to spread into blood stream leading to life-threatening sepsis," the recall notice states.

As of August 8, there have been no adverse events reported to DermaRite in connection to the recall.
